Hundreds of McFly fans turn out to welcome idols back
Members of boyband McFly were greeted by the screams of about 300 teenage girls on a visit to a store yesterday.
Harry Judd and Danny Jones visited PowerPlay, in Leicester’s Highcross centre, to autograph copies of their first single in two years.
Danny said: “It’s great to be here and it is really exciting because we haven’t done signings in a couple of years.
“It is good to see people still care.”
Fan Karen Walters, from Uppingham, was at the front of the queue as the musicians made their way down to the shop to autograph copies of Party Girl shortly after 4.30pm.
Karen, 21, who was with two friends, said: “It was brilliant. They are our two favourite members of the band so it has been great.
“I was queuing from 10.30am because I’m a big fan and it was my first time meeting them.
“I was going to come at 7am but there wouldn’t have been much point – no one was in the queue behind us until 1.30pm.”
Kim Murphy, 16, from Wigston, said: “Loads of us came straight from school and it’s been really exciting.
“I’ve loved them since I was about nine and I’ve been to see them seven times but this was the first time I’ve met them.”
Her friend Emily Crosby, 16, also from Wigston, said: “They were awesome.”
McFly: they of the floppy hair, poppy tunes and puppy-dog eyes. But not any more… These boys have grown up, grown muscles and could teach Kate Moss a thing or two about partying…
Wow. Hel-looo McFly. What happened and where did you get those abs? (Fabulous blushes profusely and tries to regain composure). Anyway, your new single’s called Party Girl. What’s your wildest party experience?
Danny: I gatecrashed a party thrown by Kate Moss at a private members’ club in London last year. My mate was organising it so he snuck me in and I got drunk and danced around like a nutter all night. I saw Kate looking at me at one point, probably trying to work out who I was. I know you didn’t invite me, but thanks for a great night, Kate!
Harry: When I was 16, my parents went out for the night and I got some mates round. It started off as a really posh dinner party – I was even wearing a pink shirt! – but once the booze started flowing it all got a bit wild – there was a lot of snogging. My mum and dad weren’t happy the next day.
You recently did a nude shoot for a gay magazine – why do you think you’ve got so many gay fans?
Harry: Because of Dougie – he’s such a little cutie.
Tom: Yeah, Dougie’s our trump card with gay men. They love him!
Danny: We’re young guys in a band who like to get our kit off. What’s not to love!
We couldn’t agree more, boys (We reprimand ourselves. Must. Stop. Being. Inappropriate.) Speaking of fans, what’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever been sent?
Dougie: Once we got sent a cake decorated with a fan’s hairs. We don’t think they were from her head though
Danny: We were touring in Brazil last year, and I got sent a package with loads of condoms and a very explicit letter from a 40-something fan telling me exactly what she wanted to do to me. I was quite flattered she thought I’d have the stamina to use all the condoms!
So you wouldn’t be averse to a bit of cougar love then?
