Sport Relief 2012: Harry Judd causes Twitter frenzy with underwater Strictly

Strictly Come Dancing champion Harry Judd gave Sport Relief viewers an early highlight with his performance on an underwater version of the show.

The McFly drummer was joined by his dance partner Aliona Vilani for the special edition on Friday night’s charity telethon, as he competed against series runners-up Chelsee Healey and Pasha Kovalev.

But while Chelsee ultimately won the underwater challenge, it was Harry who won the hearts of Twitter followers, with his name trending worldwide just moments after he and Aliona had performed underwater to Take That’s The Flood.

‘Forever jealous of Aliona,’ tweeted one user, ‘not everyone can say that they’ve danced underwater with Harry Judd.’

‘Harry Judd is gorgeous…especially underwater,’ said another fan.

Aliona also found herself trending, with one tweeter calling her ‘even more beautiful dancing underwater’ while another called the routine ‘an excuse to get Harry in his trunks and Aliona in her bikini.
The winner of the one-off show was chosen by a judging panel which featured regulars Len Goodman, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli, joined by Olympic swimmer Mark Foster in place of Alesha Dixon.

After both couples tied on 35 points each it was down to Len Goodman to choose the winner – and he picked Chelsee. ‘Whatever anyone gives to Sport Relief you’ve given more because I know you were petrified and you came out and did it,’ he said.

The decision was not entirely popular with one Twitter user saying, ‘To say I’m annoyed would be an understatement’ – and others suggesting Chelsee had been crowned winner after missing out on the series title.

However others backed the Waterloo Road star. ‘Chelsee was much better than Harry in that,’ tweeted one viewer. ‘Amazing stuff.’

After eight years we’re sure the guys have more than enough stories to tell about their time together as a band, and the time has come to tell them. The band will be releasing their very own autobiography later this year and we can’t wait to read all about what they really get up to behind the scenes.

On top of this our very own Tom and Dougie are also releasing picture books with Random House Children’s Books, the first called ‘The Dinosaur that pooped Christmas’- the books are set to be a total hit with the publisher and Garry Parsons is on board to illustrate them.

Wie ihr vielleicht mitbekommen habt: Bei McFly’s Konzert in Sheffield ging plötzlich der Feueralarm los. Schuld daran waren die Bühneneffekte (der Rauch!). Aber lest selbst:

 Smoke effect halts concert

A SHEFFIELD concert by pop group McFly was halted when excessive haze triggered smoke alarms.

More than 2,500 people attending Friday’s City Hall concert and the Comedy Club in its smaller Memorial Hall were evacuated, while firefighters attended.

Richard Hunter, City Hall manager said: “The fire officers confirmed excessive haze from stage effects was responsible for triggering the alarms. They were satisfied no danger was present.

“The band’s production management agreed to reduce the amount of haze effect and the show continued without further incident.�

McFly guitarist Tom Fletcher, pictured, said: “Considering the evacuation madness, it was a great show. Thanks to everyone for being so patient through the fire alarm.�

 McFly members to write for RHCB

Random House Children’s Books has acquired two picturebooks by McFly band members Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter.

Publisher for children’s colour and licensing Fiona Macmillan bought world rights through Stephanie Thwaites at Curtis Brown. The books will be illustrated by Garry Parsons.

The first title is called The Dinosaur that Pooped Christmas and will be published in October this year. It tells the story of what happens when a baby dinosaur’s appetite runs away with itself, and what happens when he has to return Christmas back where it belongs.

Macmillan said: “We are thrilled to have acquired this funny and original text from two very talented voices for today: Tom and Dougie, and for what could well be the first in series of books for the little dinosaur!

“Their shared love of weaving wonderful stories and a passion for children’s books shone through when we met. This is a story with for the whole family and one that will really make small boys howl with glee!”

Not that it has put Tom off – he’s more worried about the big day in May.

The 26-year-old said: “The planning is going well but I have to write my speech on tour and I’m really nervous about it.

“I quite like that I’m the first of us to get married as the last one is going to get the worst stag do.�

And what about the rest of the lads? Do they hear wedding bells for themselves any time soon? Er, not really.

Danny, ever the charmer, said: “Tom’s like a guinea pig – we’ll see how he gets on before we decide anything.�
